COME VISIT US FOR MAIDENS, BRED FEMALES, YOUNG MALES, BREEDING MALES AND FLEECE ANIMALS!! NUMEROUS FINANCING OPTIONS AVAILABLE! Black Forest Alpacas is owned and operated by Greg and Sandy Smith in Black Forest, CO. We're northeast of Colorado Springs about 10 miles. We started our alpaca business in 2004 and boarded our alpacas for a year. We moved to our new 35-acre farm and new home in Mar 05. We've been making improvements ever since.
Our immediate farm goal is to raise high quality alpacas for sale at great prices and provide outstanding customer service. We know quality bloodlines are very important. Our bloodlines include Peruvian with some Accoyo background, Bolivian, and Chilean. Take a look at these BLOODLINES: TP POSEIDON, MOTIVATOR, HEMINGWAY, FELIX, GUELLERMO, ROYAL FAWN, AUGUSTO, CALIGULA, BUENO, DOM LUCILIO, CAMELOT, DAKOTIA, DON JUAN, OLYMPUS, PRESIDIO, ELITE, ION, SILVER CREEK, BIG HOSS, CHAPARRAL, DRAMBUIE, AUZENGATE, PLURO, DANKO, BLACK FLAME, EL MOSTACHIO, and many others. Bloodlines trace back to the largest/highest quality alpaca farms in North America. Our most current info is on AlpacaNation and our website at www.blackforestalpacas.com Sandy and I come from a long line of pioneer farmers/ranchers from South Dakota and Nebraska so farming has always been a part of our life. I was born and raised on a farm in South Dakota (dairy, beef cattle, hogs, small grain, and hay), I have always had a desire to return to my "roots". Sandy and I each served 20 years in the Air Force and both retired from active duty in 2003/2004. After doing research on alpacas starting back in 1996, we were able to put the wheels in motion and started our alpaca farm in 2004 -- Black Forest Alpacas! We moved the "herd" to our place in Aug 2005, all 12 Huacayas. Since then, we've added 65 alpaca crias and 4 llama crias born on our farm. We have grown to over 100 animals (100+ alpacas & 3 llamas) in 6+ years. We are working on strengthening our dark program and purchased a bay black Snowmass male, Black Passion, we also bought a Magical Farms male, MFI Peruvian Cordell. We have part ownership in TP's Poseidon's Motivator (23-time Color Champion to include multiple National AOBA Awards). We have an outstanding group of proven herdsires standing at stud at Black Forest Alpacas, Peruvian Challenge w/50 offspring; Reykjavik (Dom Lucilio son); Jules (Full Accoyo); Rainier (Yupanqui/Felix grandson); and several others. We can also offer a variety of castrated fleece males - great for 4H projects and spinners!
We have 3 guard llamas, 2 barn cats, and 2 livestock guard dog.
We are excited about the alpaca business and where it is going in the next 10 years. We feel like we should do everything in our power to be as knowledgable as possible in the agriculture/alpaca business. We attend about five shows a year and try to make it to the National Show about every other year. We are always trying to learn more about our industry and hope to pass that information onto our customers and friends!
