Alpaca Breeder Farm
Chris grew up on a dairy farm in Northwestern PA. His family still owns that farm to this day, and they still joke about Chris doing whatever possible to avoid "chores". They all knew he'd NOT be the farmer in the family.
Carol and Chris
Chris became a Doctor of Optometry and currently has offices in Kane and Smethport, PA. As we raised our 3 children and they began their lives, Chris longed for the quiet and serenity of the farm. He talked about moving to the farm and raising beef or pigs. My response was that I could not be counted on for care of the animals. As an animal lover from the very beginning, I knew that I could not have meat on my plate that had a name and a face. Let's just say that there was no way I was going to live on "The Farm".
In the fall of 2001, our dear friends, the Kleins, told us they had purchased 3 pregnant alpacas. Immediately the questions began. What for? What do you do with them? Do you mean you can profit from these animals without killing them? How much do they cost? WOW!!! What would happen if one died? Insurance? Tax advantages? Warm clothes? TAX ADVANTAGES?...
Warm, soft, curious, intelligent, adorable animals that can't kill you, and you don't need to kill them? LET'S MOVE TO THE FARM!
In March of 2002, we purchased our first alpacas. We purchased two pregnant females, one of which had a 6-month old male cria by her side. In 2003 we added three bred females and a partnership in the infamous Vengador to our herd. 2004 saw the addition of two more bred females and the groundbreaking for our new barn at "THE FARM ".
In March of 2005 we moved our herd of 21 alpacas to our newly constructed
alpaca facility at "THE FARM".
Our breeding program includes some of the best bloodlines in the country including, Vengador, Bueno (Dakotia, Jericho), Royal Fawn, Black Mesquite, Titan, Dracula, Silvio, Timoteo, and Augusto. Our goal is to continutally improve the fleece quality in each and every generation without sacrificing the outstanding conformation we believe is so important. If you are starting your herd ask about our start-up packages. If you already have a herd and want to add to it or improve the quality we have alpacas that can help you achieve your goal. Come visit us and let us help you make the best choice for your breeding program. We are committed to our customers' success in the industry
People often ask where the name Cinco C's came from. The name Cinco C's Alpacas stems from the 5 members of our family... Chris, Carol, and our three children Corinne, Christian Ross, and Chase...five C's. Since our crias become part of the Cinco C's Alpacas family, we name all crias born here with names beginning with C. We have lots of fun and criativity coming up with names for them. Any suggestions are welcome.
Luxurious fiber is one of the great reasons to raise alpacas. The alpacas are shorn in the spring to help them stay cool during those hot summer days. The fleece is then processed to help us stay warm in the fall and winter. Alpaca fiber is warmer, stronger and lighter than wool and very soft like cashmere. It is truly a luxury fiber. At Cinco C's Alpacas we have a store right in our barn where we sell alpaca fleece in all stages. We sell raw fleece and rovings for hand spinners and yarn for knitting crocheting and weaving. Of course we have wonderful finished products for those who just enjoy the warmth and comfort of alpaca products. Our alpaca store is a wonderful compliment to our herd of alpacas grazing just outside the barn. October through December the store is open Wednesdays and Saturdays (except on scheduled show weekends). Since we are at the barn daily to attend to the alpacas, the store is open by chance or appointment at other times. Please remember that we are busy operating our farm and traveling to shows. You are welcome to call to schedule an appointment to visit so that we may give you our personal attention.
We hope you enjoy our site and are touched by our animals as much we are...
