"Yep!
Absolutely No Hype!
We are and will remain serious Alpaca breeders! They come and they go! We have been here since 1997 and remain proud and strong! Sunburst Alpacas herd consists of time tested tried and true bloodlines! Strong, healthy Alpacas are our number one goal! Secondly, their temprement is so very important. Not wild and not too tame. Easy to handle and maintain is a goal we strive for. Our Alpacas are very used to people and farm visitors. Instead of rushing out of the barn when you enter, ours all rush in to see who is visiting! They enjoy us as much as we enjoy them. We offer full medical records and full disclosure with all of our Alpaca sales! We are honest and upfront with all of our clients! References will be supplied upon request.
DUE TO SHERRI'S ILLNESS, (KIDNEY TRANSPLANT FAILURE) WE ARE HAVING TO REDUCE THE SIZE OF OUR HERD. WE HAVE DECIDED WITH GREAT HESITATION TO OFFER SOME NEVER BEFORE FOUNDATION FEMALES AND STUDS. ALMOST ALL OF OUR HERD WILL BE OFFERED TO GET OUR OPERATION TO A REASONABLE SIZE FOR SUSANNE TO HANDLE. A NEW KIDNEY FOR SHERRI MAY TAKE UP TO FIVE OR MORE YEARS TO PROCURE. PLEASE REVIEW OUR OFFERINGS AND CALL SUSANNE OR SHERRI WITH ANY QUESTIONS YOU MAY HAVE.
Sunburst Alpacas has been in operation since 1997. 2012 is our 15th Anniversary! It's hard to believe we have been doing "ALPACAS" for 15 years! Time flies when you love what you do!
Today the ranch is run by Susanne Thatcher and her daughter, Sherri Thatcher-Harshman. Sherri's Husband, Bruce helps out too with some of the day to day operations.
Alpacas… Then and Now.
When Alpacas were first imported into the USA from South America it would have “cost” thousands and thousands of dollars to select, health cert., import, quarantine, and freight the Alpacas to the importing ranches. From there, each ranch would have “marked up” their imported alpacas according to quality and lineage and import region. Some of our first “imported” Alpacas cost us in the mid to high 20’s! Remember, those investors required “pay-back on their up front investments as well as those US folks that purchased them to sell to us.
When we started our business in 1997 there were just under 4,000 ARI registered Alpacas in the US. Now in 2009 as of this writing there are approximately 156,374 Alpacas. We will have to add 3 to that from our ranch just this week!
NOW is the best time ever to purchase Alpacas. There are many quality Alpacas with diverse bloodlines in the country to select. With the recent adjustment in their fair market value, Alpacas have become affordable for more folks than just those lucky enough to have disposable incomes! Ordinary, hard working people are now able to enjoy the Alpaca Lifestyle too!
We are choosing to remain a small ranch. Quality not quantity. We love to "sell out" all of our show stock and start over again each year! We do keep a chosen few just to expand our bloodlines.
Please feel free to call upon us with questions you may have about our ALPACAS or just ALPACAS in general. We are always available to lend a hand!
