Preston's Alpacas is a family farm in central New York, on a property that 100 yrs. ago, was home to the Mooney sheep farm. How cool is that---Fiber to Fiber! Our farm consists of 123 acres, of which about 30 acres is where we produce some of the best quality alpaca hay (and with the purchase of any of our girls, you get 25 bales)! We also pride ourselves on providing the utmost in customer service to all of our clients and fellow farmers. Between the 3 of us, we have over 80 yrs. experience in customer service and we go the distance to help our clients-every step of the way, as we each have developed our own "niches in the business, learning more from the "school of hard knocks" and are eager to share that with our very valued clients. You should NEVER underestimate the value of "great mentors" when entering a new business!
When we discovered alpacas--we knew they were the "perfect fit" for us and this farm land! We breed Peruvian/Chilean crosses, which we sell for very reasonable prices, and also high-end Peruvian animals with lots of Accoyo genetics, and then a few pet quality animals thrown in to the mix! We have a mobile breeding service with a great line-up of herd-sires, including a FAWN full accoyo-Doc Holiday(who made a BAY BLACK), Sunrose Rebel Yell, our Royal Fawn grandson...Alex/Arod and our newest Jr. sire-Donnchadh.
We have a Farm Store open on the premises , so if you come by for a visit, you can see the pacas and some paca products! We have yarn made from our alpacas and also some rovings. Exciting new look to the old farm!! Well after years of planning, work is done on our 7 acre wildlife pond that is home to geese and ducks. It is located just south of the alpaca barn and is great to see our cherished alpacas grazing with the pond full of ducks and geese in the background!!
We recently added a second Great Pyr to the mix and now Flash has a buddy in Daisy Mae. She is the cutest puppy you have ever seen and has more energy than any of us can believe! She has fit in well and now works closely under the direction of Flash and Polly who already have a pretty good handle on the guarding deal. She has become pretty popular with many folks in town and has started to steal some of Flash's attention! She is loud and causes a lot of trouble but we love her anyway. We have also made friends with stray cat who has adopted us and the alpaca barn. HB (short for Hairball) is a long haired stray who is the sweetest cat you could ever imagine. Now if we could just get some chickens.........hmmm fresh farm eggs what an idea!!!
