Alpaca Breeder Farm
Mel-O Alpacas was established in 2002. It is located on 145 acres in Southeastern Indiana on the Obermeyer homeplace which has been in the family since 1903.
We have built our business by using common sense and by starting with solid stock. Our cornerstone Herdsire, Zeus is out of Dom Lucilio and Finesse. We've added Grand River Surock (A show winner and proven herdsire) sired by award winning Grand River Dark Shaddow to our Herdsire Row.The Peruvian Commander-in-Chief has joined Herdsire Row and produced some very lovely offspring. Destroyer (a Misty Maiden son) has his first offspring and we rebred him to the same female because of the quality of the cria. All of these Herdsires are ribbon winners. We are continually working to build a quality herd with the end product - fiber- in mind. Each year our cria seem to be better and better with the characteristics we are looking for in our fiber: fineness, crimp and luster!
Mel and I love the ALPACA business and the lifestyle we have created raising ALPACAS. We are here to help you decide if owning ALPACAS is right for you. We offer information (and demonstration) on ALPACA general care, breeding and birthing, feeding and pastures, fencing and shelter.
For established breeders, we offer reasonable fees for breedings to our herdsires, boarding and birthing and fair prices for our ALPACAS.
We are always happy to meet those interested in ALPACAS or those who already own ALPACAS. We enjoy showing folks around the farm and talking about the joys of ALPACA farming.
We promise to be honest about the pros and cons of the ALPACA business. We truly believe that our common sense approach and honest dialogue set us apart. Come and visit us for a realistic look at our ALPACA business.
Contact us for an appointment to visit the farm and learn about ALPACAS. We can't wait to meet you and talk ALPACA.
