Where Stars Collide And Beauty Is Born!
The name of our farm comes from a small, but beautiful constellation in the shape of a cross. Its name is Crux and is located very close to the constellation Centaurus.
Explorers of the Southern Hemisphere used Crux to guide them when sailing and to figure out which direction to sail without getting lost.
As the Southern Cross is the smallest, but brightest constellation. We at Southern Cross Alpacas, Inc., hope to be the brightest and to shine above and beyond our greatest expectations. Our goal is to raise an excellent Huacaya herd with the best genetics, fiber and health possible.
Alpacas are one of God's most enchanting creatures. Our love for animals and the alpaca's beauty is what started our desire to raise alpacas. The beauty of the alpaca is just one of the many benefits of owning and raising alpacas, it is a complete lifestyle change, financially rewarding and needless to say the joy that they bring just being around these amazing animals.
If you are interested in buying alpacas, starting your own business or would like to stop by for a visit. We are located in Western North Carolina in Hayesville near the John C. Campbell Folk School. Visit us and maybe stay for awhile, we have plenty of room and the alpacas love the company. We offer a 2 bedroom 1 bath carriage home apartment for your convienence. ABOUT US
Southern Cross Alpacas, Inc. started as a venture between two friends that share a love for people as well as animals.
Maxine is a retired Marion County Sheriff here in Florida. Donna a retired Delray Beach Fire Rescue Paramedic/Firefighter in Florida as well as a registered nurse. We loved our career choices, the challenge and the excitement of it all, but we could do without the stress involved at this point in our lives. We are always up for a good challenge, but this time we thought that we would go for the challenge and excitement without the high stress level.
We have been looking into alpacas for some time, saw alpacas in North Carolina at a fair, kicked around some ideas about raising them and then somehow the idea disappeared. Well, as I was on vacation in North Carolina, I decided to go through Ocala on my way home to visit Maxine. The next thing I knew we were visiting a friend's alpaca farm and it was there that we were both smitten by the sweet faces and gentleness of the alpacas.
As soon as we left the farm, the quest for knowledge began. We were on line researching, making phone calls, visiting farms and buying books to read. We booked a seminar and gleaned as much information as we could from all of the experts that we could find.
We will never finish our quest for knowledge, or to breed the most perfect alpaca, but we have established our goals to breed the finest genetics, from the best herdsires available. We were mentored by some the best breeders to develop our hands and eyes to distinguish the most desirable characteristics, to be able to build an excellent quality Huacaya herd.
We would love to share the knowledge that we have learned in our quest for quality alpacas, or if you prefer to just stop by to meet our herd. Please call for an appointment and we will be glad to show you around.
Thank you for visiting Southern Cross Alpacas!
