“IDENTICAL TWIN”! ! ! ! 3/4 Accoyo; Titan line
Tomasa and Thomasina is the feminine version of Thomas meaning twin. Thomas the Apostil was often called Didymus, which is Greek for twin.
These girls came from the same sack. That means they have the same genes for color, sex, fiber, everything, whereas just twins means two eggs were fertilized and has nothing to do with the mothers genetical ability to divide an egg and make two identical babies. You could get different colors or even a male and a female. That means mom split the egg after it was fertilized. She did it with her first pregnancy as well. She aborted twin girls at 9 months. This time, she has it worked out. They were up and running laps and kicking from day one. And yes, they carry the gene from the maternal line to have identical twins also. It passed down through the maternal DNA. One out of 50,000 alpacas gets pregnant with twins. We have about 50,000 females in the US now. How rare is it to have Identical twins. They have been checked out by my vet as well as the Ohio State University School of Veterinarian Medicine. They said, “They are ready to mingle with the herd!
Alpaca magazine has all the information and pictures and may run the story this spring.
Not only rare as identical twins, but these little snow whites are full Peruvian, ¾ accoyo out of a mother that is 16 micron and shears a 12 pound blanket. Also, I should mention that their Sire is a son of the Legendary TITAN, who is closed to breeding.
Fine like mom with tight bundled crimp.
