MT Llama Rescue-Urgent Need!
Background -
The Montana Large Animal Sanctuary (MLAS) is closing it's doors forever. The number of residents there exceeds 1,000 with the largest llama herd in North America. Current requirements are 3+ tons of hay DAILY to feed these animals and winter has arrived. While SELR and others are working hard to reduce the numbers being housed here, the remaining still deseperately need food. AniMeals has been the ones responsible for making this happen as well as helping us help them. Please support their endeavors. Then respond quickly. Don't wait for someone else to help. That someone else is you. How you can help NOW!
The Camelid Rescue Coalition Update
CRITICAL Need for Homes
January 31 Changing of the Guard at MLAS
January 16, 2011
The Camelid Rescue Coalition (CRC), comprised of representatives from Northeast Llama Rescue, Inc. (NELR) in collaboration with Southeast Llama Rescue, Inc. (SELR), Southwest Llama Rescue, Inc. (SWLR), Llama Association of North America's Lama Lifeline Committee (LANA Lifeline) and several other llama associations, extends our gratitude to everyone who has responded thus far to the crisis at the Montana Large Animal Sanctuary (MLAS).
The CRC has been informed by Animeals of Missoula staff their last day at the Sanctuary will be January 31, 2011. There are approximately 250 llamas, mostly males, without homes that will still be at the Sanctuary after January 31 if homes are not found immediately. The need to find homes for the remaining llamas is now critical.
If you have the ability to absorb any of the llamas still unspoken for at the Sanctuary, please use the following link to an adoption application, or contact any of the organizations below directly.
We have been collecting amazing stories from "boots on the ground" to our "initial intake centers"for our SELR blog. Meanwhile, here are a few that will give you an idea of a day in the life of MLAS Llamas:
