Alpaca Breeder Farm
Building our herd has been a slow and deliberate process. All our alpacas over 1 1/2 year of age (currently 10) have ribboned in a show, and we currently own 3 Color Champions. Many of our alpacas have produced Color Champions for other farms. We will never be a big farm, but our herd has made a big impact in the showring.
We are a full service farm offering show quality breeding stock at prices reasonable to the market. A lot of research goes into the pricing of our alpacas. We tend to list all our animals for sale, and not hold back the best. We will at times also market other farm's alpacas. However, all alpacas on our sales lists are fully owned and registered to the party that is selling them. There are no liens on any alpaca on our sales list. We have recently adjusted our pricing of our breeding stock to reflect current economic conditions. The quality of our alpacas has not decreased with the price. We submit micron counts for every alpaca each year, show our alpacas, Skin follicle test our proven herdsires, and in 2011 will publish all our EPD samples. The more information, the better the breeding decisions.
2010 has a good year for us and our customers. We bought and sold alpacas in 2010 and plan to continue for 2011 and beyond.
Until economic conditions improve, we will give our females an extended time off between breedings. They are all priced as bred females and include board and breeding care until they are confirmed pregnant 60 days by ultrasound. Of course we are willing to discuss reasonable offers on any of the alpacas on our sales list.
In early 2010 we added a farm store and discovery center. The Fiber Shack and Discovery Center at Celestine Ridge is here! Our farm store has outgrown its space in our living room! Many of the items in our store are one of a kind items made from our own alpaca's fiber. Check out our store on the AlpacaStreet Mall. We are constantly adding products and have many unadvertised products as well. Want to be on our store's e-mail list? Contact us at www.celestineridgealpacas.com. We will be making some improvements to our store facilities in early 2011. We thank all of our customers for making 2010 our best year yet!
We offer quality care for all alpacas on our farm, and support to all of our customers. We also offer sales and purchasing assistance, breeding services, birthing services, educational opportunities, like kind trades, and short and long term boarding are available.
The farm is run by a veterinarian (Jim) and veterinary technician (Heidi)and our 3 young boys.
We believe in supporting existing farms, as well as new farms in the area. There are several farms represented on our farm and some animals are not on our sales list yet. If you are interested in a color, or country of origin, let us know and we will assist you in finding the alpacas of your dreams, even if they are not on our farm. We are will work with other farms locally and in other states to help you find the alpacas of your dreams. At Celestine Ridge Alpacas, your success is our success.
Jim and I (Heidi) are committed to supporting the alpaca industry and have made donations to Auburn University, NCSU College of Textiles, and UMASS Camelid Studies Program, ARF, and others. Giving back to an industry that supports and challenges us is important to us and the future of the industry.
